Have you ever wondered what it means to layer lights? Smart lighting is a new innovation in the lighting industry that has been rapidly growing over the last few years. Smart LED technology can be combined with other types of light sources to create unique, custom looks for any space. This blog post will discuss how layering different light sources offer an easy way to achieve modern, chic designs with minimal effort and budget!
Here are 5 Layers we use:
Natural Lighting
With natural lighting, we use the sun’s light that comes into the space through windows and skylights to illuminate your room. This is natural light at its best!
General Lighting
When we say general lighting, we are referring to the overall room or space – a light in a hallway provides general lighting.
Ambient Lighting
Ambient lighting is the light that comes into a room from windows, TVs, computer screens, etc. Anything that isn’t the actual light fixture for the room.
Task Lighting
Task lighting comes into play to eliminate eye strain and makes a healthy environment to work in. One example would be a light at your desk or workstation, this doesn’t light the whole room, but rather a specific task.
Accent Lighting
This would be an example of when you wish to display a work of art or sculpture in a hallway or foyer.
When you design a lighting system, all 5 of these are considered when producing the proper design. If you only use natural or ambient light, the room is too dark at night or on a cloudy day. Task lighting comes into play to eliminate eye strain and makes a healthy environment to work in. Accent lighting adds a special touch to the space.
